Donating to non-profit organizations is something I do every year. This donated painting is of Jake Wilcox's trick horse that he and his Father trained at their ranch in Colorado. Pushing a baby carriage was one of these tricks. Each volunteer artist chose a painting created by an Alzheimer patient to "Pair Up With". The artist then choses a painting and creates a companion painting for the live auction. Different galleries donate the framing.
The live auction takes place June 6, 2009 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Alzheimers Research will receive the profits from all print sales of this painting.
It has taken over 60 years for me to intellectually understand that to be an artist is not a "job" but a way of living. Similar to breathing, it involuntarily keeps my soul alive. My body of work primarily consists of animals because our natural affinity towards them can elevate the most profound feelings inside us. Animals can launch the heart in many directions. Recently I have re-discovered the joy of abstracts. They offer me the opportunity to be 100% experimental and inspirational. Abstracts can lead the viewer into a realm of discovery and interpretation as the painting speaks to them.
